Efflorescence is created when salt migrates to the surface of a porous exterior hardscape material, forming a coating of crystalline salt deposits(Calcium Carbonate). The appearance of efflorescence is a white, fluffy or powdery substance that appears white, grey, brown or yellow, depending
on the type of salts present within the material.

Water, rain and snow are sources of moisture and mpact the amount of efflorescence present. Efflorescence can occur at different times. It can either be a problem from the beginning of construction or occur gradually over a period of time.

Primary efflorescence can appear within the first 72 hours, where excess moisture is present. Secondary efflorescence is caused by external moisture issues and water penetration, which extracts salts to the surface.

It’s difficult to completely prevent efflorescence, however cleaning and sealing will help to minimize occurrence by preventing moisture penetration in all types of hardscape surfaces.

We offer 2 types of sealers depending on the type of material and appearance desired:

Surface Saver Sealer creates an invisible barrier without changing the natural appearance of the treated surface. It is suitable for all types of exterior hardscape such as brick pavers, concrete, exposed aggregate, stamped colored concrete, brick, stone & masonry.

Paver Gloss Sealer creates a satin gloss appearance that enhances the natural color(s) of the hardscape surface. It locks out moisture and stains while protecting the color from UV fading. It is suitable for brick pavers, exposed aggregate & stamped colored concrete.

All Surface Restoration provides efflorescence removal & sealing of all types of exterior hardscape surfaces within Oakland & Macomb County, MI. Request a free estimate at: surfacerestoration.com/contact or call 248-475-0004
